This is a
picture of the art gallery of Christchurch, known as Te Puna o
Waiwhetu. It is a beautiful building made of glass bluestone,
red granite and metal. The Christchurch art gallery is one big
attraction that attracts lot of tourists and resident of New
Zealand. The building has been designed by Australasian
architects, The Buchan Group who won the competition organised
in 1998 to design this important building. The building of the
Te Puna o Waiwhetu consist of an auditorium, a reference and
study room, education workrooms, easily accessible parking,
restaurants, cafés and bars, and collection storage space. The
new Art Gallery which succeed to the Robert McDougal Art Gallery
constructed in 1932; opened in May 2003. It is the largest art
foundation in the South Island. The gallery has a collection of
over five thousands items comprising sculpture, drawings,
paintings, ceramics, textiles, prints, photography, metal works.
The Christchurch is recognised nationally and internationally.
There are over 120 people working for the art gallery and have
also a lot of volunteers who give their time to the gallery. |
