Canterbury is
the largest region of New Zealand. The main city of Canterbury
is Christchurch. The region of Canterbury has an area of over
42.000 km square. Canterbury is also home to the University of
Canterbury. Canterbury composition is mostly the mountains
around and the Canterbury Plains. Canterbury region is divided
in three parts which are the North Canterbury, the South
Canterbury and the Mid Canterbury. Canterbury is also well known
for its wine. The region has two main areas of viticulture which
is Waipara and areas around Christchurch. Canterbury became
Canterbury Province in 1853 after the New Zealand Constitution
Act 1852 and in 1876 all provinces of New Zealand were abolished
including Canterbury Province. The University of Canterbury is
considered as the second oldest university of New Zealand. The
university is located in Ilam a suburb in the city of
Christchurch. The University of Canterbury offers degrees in
Social Work, Fine Arts, Arts, Commerce, Education, Engineering,
Law, Music, Science, Speech and Language Therapy and Forestry.
It has been constructed in 1873. It has over 12.000 students. |
