This is a
picture of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament located in
Christchurch, New Zealand. The cathedral is also known as the
Christchurch Basilica. The Catholic Cathedral has been designed
by Francis Petre a famous architect born in New Zealand in
August 1847. The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament is
considered as the biggest completed job in his architect life.
Fifty men have been employed to build the Christchurch Basilica.
The Catholic Cathedral that you observe on the picture has
replaced a small wooden church designed by Benjamin Mountfort.
The old wooden church was built in 1864. The construction of the
Cathedral started in 1901 and was officially finished and opened
in February 1905. The church has been designed in Italian
basilica style. The pediment of the Cathedral has been in the
Sebastiano Serlio style. Francis Petre designed different
churches in New Zealand and three Cathedrals in New Zealand.

Dunedin, St Patrick Church in Lawrence, St Mary’s Roman Catholic

city of New Zealand. This famous architect designed also a large
number of houses. Petre was considered as someone who devoted
his life to architecture and loved his job. Pinner House and
Woodside Mansion, Phoenix House, Cargill’s Castle located in
Dunedin, Llanmaes Mansion in Christchurch are examples of houses
