This is a
picture of Christchurch; it is located in the South Island of
New Zealand, it is also the largest city in the South Island and
second largest city of this land. Christchurch is a coastal
city. Christchurch has a population of over 350,000. In the past
city was known as “Christ Church”, named after its cathedral
which is the University of Oxford and as well the Cathedral of
Oxford, England. The Maori call Christchurch Te Whenua oTe
Potiki-Tautahi but as it is a long name they have shorten it to
Otautahi. Christchurch is the main city of the largest region of
New Zealand, Canterbury. The climate of Christchurch is
temperate, with the highest temperature in January and lowest in
July. In summer the temperature may go over thirty degrees. The
area has also beautiful sandy beaches. After research it seems
that Christchrch has been the first area where the famous Moa,
the large flightless bird, settled, proofs were found in 1876 in
a cave in Redcliffs. It seems that the first human settled in
the area around the year 1000. Christchurch is a fabulous place
to visit and is also rich in history. |
