The Moeraki
Boulders are spherical stones as you can observe on the above
picture. These Moeraki Boulders are mostly found near Moeraki on
the beach of Koekohe Beach which is in the south of Hampden on
Otago in New Zealand. The boulders have a grey color, they got
these forms because of the shoreline erosion and emerged from
the cliffs that was at the back of the beach. This happened with
time of course. The boulders are very heavy in weight; they can
weigh up to several tons and in general have three meters in
diameter. While visiting the beach of Koekohe, it is a
spectacular view that you will have, it looks so extraordinary
to see these boulders on the beach as if they were just put
there as decoration. The Moeraki Boulders are unique to South
Island of New Zealand. |
